About us
Join us to a circular tomorrow
CircuFoam is a company that uses a revolutionary recycling technique to return foam from discarded mattresses to a pure raw material. Recovering raw materials from discarded mattresses is our way to of contributing to a circular tomorrow.
We are the first in the Netherlands to produce Repolyol from polyurethane. Repolyol is an oil-based raw material that can be used to make new foam. We also make Rebond from recycled PU foam. The use of Rebond as a sustainable product is popular in carpet underlay and mats for fall absorption.
We continue to optimize our production processes at the highest level to deliver the best quality to our customers.
What is polyurethane?
Most mattresses have a polyurethane foam filling, also known as PU foam. Polyurethane is a unique plastic that can be used in the most diverse production processes. In addition to mattresses, furniture, cars and even sportswear, PU is used in the construction world as an insulation material. Within the field of CircuFoam we focus on PU from mattresses that are sustainably recycled into new raw materials.
Sustainable mattress recycling
Our partner RetourMatras is the expert in sustainable mattress recycling. With four mattress recycling locations in the Netherlands, there is a capacity to dismantle 1.5 million discarded mattresses annually according to the RetourMatras method. Materials that are released during the mattress recycling process are metal, textiles, latex and PU foam. The first three materials are baled and sold to producers all over the world. RetourMatras has its own mission with PU foam. In the mattress recycling factory of RetourMatras in Alphen aan den Rijn (operational since 2018), PU foam from mattresses is recycled at the same location and processed into rolls and plates. More and more developments have ensured that this recycled product can be used as carpet underlay, but also as fall damping under playgrounds and as insulating and sound-absorbing material in construction.
In the year 2010 RetourMatras has set-up the first recycling plant for end-of-life mattresses at Lelystad in the Netherlands. Sustainable recycling instead of incineration with a view to CO2 reduction and the goal of 100% raw material reuse. Based on that idea, the unique and increasingly developed “RetourMatras method” is now expanding around the world.
200,000 thousand mattresses per year from the Netherlands are converted to repolyol
